Are you concerned here? Your growth plates likely closed at age 14, average, and left you with a very short stature. You likely stopped growing early because you started puberty early. Most males start at age 12, and females at age 11. If you started earlier, then you’d be taller than most people, but then be a shorter person at adult height. Remember this is on an average basis.Short parents means you’ll be short too. The average US male is 5′9.7″, and 5′4.0″ for females. The people from the United Kingdom are a little bit more taller. An inch or two give or take.

You could also have growth hormone deficiency. This causes the body to generate below average amounts of growth hormone, causing short stature. The symptoms can be being shorter than both parents, less than 2.0 inches per year during growth spurt periods, never exceeding 2.0 inches per year during growth, and late puberty. This cannot be treated once growth plates are closed, but if growth plates are open, it can be treated, and full adult height will be restored, no matter how open your growth plates are.

Have you started your menses? Girls often achieve the majority of their height before they start their menses.

In the US, it is fairly normal for a girl to be an inch taller than her Mom and a boy to be an inch taller than his Dad due to good nutrition and the trends.

But I don’t know if that is still common.

Talk to your doctor about this question. Few of us would know!

I think I’ve heard that if you are vegetarian when young, it may slow your development of body muscle/fat that could ultimately shorten your height.

There are many factors that apply.

Love yourself the way you are. Hard to say, sometimes, but worth it.

Height Increase Secret Reality

Do you see that? The trend is so beautiful. You can see an upward trend starting from the early 1950s. But right when it enters in the new millennium, the average NBA players actually shrunk by an inch. That is pretty alarming. This graph is really interesting, but we will give our point of view on this one here.

The shrink you see is because players get tested more often today then before. Yes, the truth is the players have been taking a lot of growth supplements. It is out there folks, for sure. Even George Karl mentioned in his already controversial yet-to-be-released “Furious George” book.

While the NBA is known for not having the strongest anti-doping program, it doesn't mean it's an outdated/inefficient program. When NBA players fail these tests, it's mostly because of drugs (marijuana, heroin, cocaine, etc) and not because of performance enhancing substances.

They get tested 6 times a year. That's 4 times during the season and twice in the offseason. Here's an extract from the NBA-NBPA CBA:

  • “All players are subject to four (4) random tests each season (from October 1 to June 30). All players are also subject to two (2) random tests each off-season (from July 1 to September 30). All such tests are scheduled and conducted by an independent, third-party entity and are without prior notice to the player. The NBA and the NBPA are not involved in the scheduling of any tests or the selection of players for testing.”

What George Karl complained about was the fact that the league is doing nothing to keep up with the sophisticated cheaters that use undetectable substances and get away with it. He points out those elite players that made ( make) trips to Germany during the off season.

But that's something any pro sports league struggles with. It's not up to any league, but up to those third-party laboratories to be a step ahead of those illegal substance developers.

You can't say there's a doping problem in the NBA because allegedly a handful of elite players are using new substances and doping methods that can't be detected.

Verdict?

Now the evident negation. 6-7 is still pretty damn tall, by human standards. The average height in most Western countries is at or near 6ft. tall for males, and shorter for females. So the obvious answer. The NBA regulation height of the basket is 10 feet currently, so obviously it is an advantage to be at least 6-3 or taller as it makes dunking the basketball or elevating to a point where layups are relatively easy a much easier task to accomplish. Again, there are outliers here, as there have been at least two players 5-7 or under to not only play in the NBA but flourish (Muggsy Bogues and Spud Webb) but the average height of an NBA player has been taller than 6 feet since the 1950s.

Players intake is still up there, but the intake on these height increase pills has been reduced due to the number of times basketball athletes are checked for PEDs. We all know the news on baseball, how they are dealing with steroids and other controversies. But, you get the big picture that the media won’t tell you right? Average height is barely 5’8.” Yet, these basketball players are insanely tall. Do you need to look any further for the truth?
